Egon Forenbacher ("Big Globe Ship", "we"), 47 Taunton Road, Toronto, Ontario M4S 2P2, Canada, is responsible for personal information collected through this site. Our privacy contact is support@bigglobeship.com. We follow Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA) and, for visitors in the EU and UK, apply the main GDPR principles.

What we collect

• Customers: name, email, route and cargo details you enter, any notes, your acceptance of our terms, and technical data such as IP address and browser type.
• Providers: company details, registration and licence numbers, insurance information, contact email, verification documents and notes, and records of consent and agreement.
• Bookings: quote and booking records, fee amounts and status. We do not receive or store card numbers; card payments are handled by Stripe.

Why we use it

To produce estimates, send your request to matching Providers, send you quotes and booking messages, verify and manage Providers, calculate and collect fees, handle complaints, prevent fraud and meet legal duties (including tax and sanctions rules). We rely on your consent and on our legitimate interest in operating the platform safely.

Who receives it

• Matching Providers see your route, cargo details and notes, but not your name or email until you accept their quote.
• The Provider you book receives your name, email and booking details.
• Service providers that help us run the site: hosting and database (Supabase, Vercel), email delivery (Resend), and payments (Stripe), under their own privacy terms.
• Authorities, where the law requires it. We do not sell personal information.

Marketing and emails

We send only messages about your request or booking, and Provider quote requests and service notices to Providers who have agreed to receive them. Every non-transactional message identifies us and includes our address and a way to opt out.

Cookies and local storage

We do not use advertising cookies. Your browser may store a small setting (which fee display you were shown) so the page stays consistent. You can clear it in your browser.

Storage, transfers and security

Data may be stored and processed in Canada, the United States or the EU. We use access controls, encryption in transit and at rest where our providers offer it, private storage for provider documents, and an audit log. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach creates a real risk of significant harm we will notify affected people and the regulator as required.

How long we keep it

Quote requests that do not become bookings: up to 2 years. Booking, fee and accounting records: up to 7 years. Provider verification records: while listed and up to 7 years after. We then delete or anonymise.

Your rights

You can ask to see, correct or delete your information, withdraw consent, or complain about how we handle it, by emailing support@bigglobeship.com. We respond within 30 days. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada or, in the EU or UK, your data protection authority.
